Tales of Times Past

Our History

In 1995 the Tales of Times Past – Intergenerational / Intercultural Oral History Foundation Program, developed by Vasanti Sunderland of Community Voice Consultancy, was piloted in the City of Melville. The outcome of the ‘Tales’ Foundation Program is to establish an independent, self-governing Tales of Times Past Senior Storytellers Branch in local areas.

Since inception the ‘Tales’ Foundation Program has been successfully implemented in 26 Shires, Towns and Cities of Perth and country Western Australia resulting in many Branches being established.  It became evident that a central peak body was needed to support this growing network and in 2008, TOTPSS – Tales of Times Past Senior Storytellers Inc (Not for Profit) was established.

Over the years a number of TOTPSS Branches have amalgamated to maintain support and promote our community heritage activities that encourage insight into local and worldwide history.

The ‘Tales’ Foundation Program is a highly successful community building enterprise and has been developed to enable it to be delivered Australia wide.

There have been a number of books written and published by individual ‘TOTPSS’ members and by two by local councils in Perth, Western Australia through successful community grants.
